# Chapter 128: Hopes of Spring

The moment Eun-seo stepped into Hacheon-ri’s town center, the fresh aroma of the five-day market hit her nostrils. The bus she’d just ridden had already pulled away, and the crowd around her continued to swell. She glanced about, searching for a familiar face, when she spotted Bok-soon beaming at her from across the square.

“Oh, you’re back again! Come here and have lunch with me. I’ve made a special doenjang-jjigae today.” Bok-soon pulled her close, warmth radiating from her words.

Eun-seo followed her, moved by the kindness in her voice. The people of Hacheon-ri had always treated her with such generosity. From the moment she’d first visited this place, she’d been drawn to the quiet warmth that seemed to emanate from every corner of the village.

When they reached Bok-soon’s house, Eun-seo caught sight of Min-jun’s workshop across the way. He wasn’t there yet. She stepped inside Bok-soon’s home and settled in for lunch, the two of them sharing stories between bites of various dishes, their conversation flowing as naturally as the river that gave the village its name.

After lunch, Eun-seo made her way to Min-jun’s workshop. He was already there, absorbed in his work. When he looked up and saw her, a smile spread across his face. “Eun-seo. It’s been a while since you’ve come by. What brings you here?”

She returned his smile. “Min-jun. It makes me happy to see you working like this, so content in what you do.”

His expression softened. “I really am happy here. Being able to meet people, to create, to be surrounded by nature—it’s everything I could ask for.”

They fell into easy conversation, moving between his finished pieces and half-formed ideas. Eun-seo found herself understanding him more deeply with each exchange, seeing not just the craftsman but the man behind the work—someone who’d found his place in the world.

“You know,” Min-jun said, turning to her with genuine warmth in his eyes, “I’d be truly happy if you could stay here. If I could see you happy in this place too.”

Eun-seo felt something stir within her at his words. “I’m already happy when I see you like this. Your happiness makes mine complete.”

They stood together in the workshop as the afternoon light filtered through the windows, casting long shadows across the clay and wood. Outside, spring was awakening—a season of new beginnings and quiet promises. And in that moment, suspended between the life they’d known and the life they might build together, both of them felt it: the possibility that sometimes, the best things in life are found not by searching, but by simply returning home.
