# Chapter 85: A Promise for Tomorrow

Eun-seo stepped out of Min-jun’s workshop and walked along the riverbank path. The warmth of the studio and the scent of earth clung to her thoughts. She found herself replaying moments—Min-jun standing beside her, the way his hands shaped the clay, the gentleness in his gaze when he looked at her. All of it brought her a quiet sense of peace. She understood now that this peace was one of the reasons she couldn’t leave. The riverside landscape helped settle her restless heart. The flow of water, the whisper of falling leaves, and the light from above wove together into a melody that soothed her emotions.

She stopped by the Hacheon-ri market. The stalls were already open, vendors arranging their wares in practiced order. There she found Bokson’s aunt, who greeted her with a warm smile. “Eun-seo! What brings you here?” Her voice was gentle, and it eased something tight in Eun-seo’s chest. Bokson’s aunt made space for her to sit. As Eun-seo settled beside her, she took in the market’s vivid tapestry—vegetables and fruits in brilliant colors, the mingled aromas that filled the air. The atmosphere seemed to refresh her spirit.

“So, what about Seoul?” Bokson’s aunt asked. Eun-seo met her eyes—they were warm, inviting her to share everything. But she wasn’t ready. Instead, she offered a small smile. “Grandmother asked me about it. I haven’t decided yet.” Bokson’s aunt took her hand. It was warm, and Eun-seo found comfort in that warmth. “Eun-seo, do what feels right to your heart. We’re all on your side.” Her words lightened something inside her. Eun-seo held onto her hand and gazed out at the market’s bustling landscape.

The market’s energy helped settle her mind. The vendors greeted her kindly, and their warmth reassured her. She lingered there for hours, moving between stalls, conversing with people, feeling her burden gradually lift. She thanked Bokson’s aunt and left the market, walking back along the riverbank. The water’s movement, the sound of leaves, the quality of light—all of it enveloped her, and she moved forward with a lighter step.

She returned to Min-jun’s workshop. He was still at work, but he looked up and smiled when he saw her. “You came back.” She stood beside him, watching his hands move through the clay—the way he worked was utterly mesmerizing. Seeing his movements calmed her. She enjoyed simply being near him. When he finished, she took his hand, and they walked together along the river path, surrounded by flowing water, falling leaves, and golden light.

They walked side by side, and Eun-seo felt her heart grow lighter with each step. His hand was warm in hers, and that warmth steadied her. As they walked, she began to sort through her thoughts, to untangle the knot inside her. She gazed out at the riverside scenery, feeling peace settle over her like a gentle blanket.

“It’s really beautiful here,” she said softly. “The river always seems to ease my mind.”

“It does,” Min-jun replied. “The water, the leaves, the light—they all come together to create something beautiful.”

Hearing his words, she squeezed his hand tighter. His warmth anchored her. As they continued walking, she felt herself slowly making peace with her confusion. She looked out at the landscape while holding his hand, and gradually, her heart found its ease.

She began to reflect on her recent struggles as they walked. So much had weighed on her mind, and her heart had felt turbulent. But here, with Min-jun beside her, she could finally begin to sort through it all. She held his hand and gazed at the river, feeling the tension within her ease bit by bit.

“Min-jun, I’ve had so much on my mind lately,” she said. “But walking here with you, I feel like I can finally start to understand what I need to do.”

“I’m glad,” he said. “The river has a way of helping us see clearly. I’ll be here with you, for as long as you need.”

She held his hand more firmly, moved by his words. As they continued along the path, the river’s gentle rhythm seemed to echo the settling of her own heart. With each step, with each breath of autumn air, she felt herself becoming whole again.

“Thank you,” she whispered. “For being here. For helping me find my way.”

“Always,” Min-jun said simply. “I’ll always be here.”

They walked on in comfortable silence, their hands intertwined, the river bending around them like a promise kept. The light was fading into evening, painting the sky in shades of amber and rose. Eun-seo looked at the changing colors and felt something shift inside her—not clarity yet, but the beginning of it. A sense that tomorrow might bring answers. That whatever came next, she wouldn’t face it alone.

She held Min-jun’s hand as they walked, and for the first time in weeks, she allowed herself to believe that everything might be okay.
